Respect for your privacy is a core IJS principle.
The Institute for Jewish Spirituality, Inc. (“IJS” or “we” or “us”) believes strongly in protecting the privacy of all who support and communicate with us: donors, website visitors, program participants, mailing list registrants, and others. We have written this Privacy Notice to help all constituents know what kind of personally identifiable information we gather, how we use the information, whether any of this information is shared with others outside of IJS, and how you can opt out of sharing information with us.
This Privacy Notice applies when you visit our website, www.jewishspirituality.org (“our website”), make a donation through our website or directly to us through the mail or other means, or otherwise provide personal information to us. It also applies to personal information we receive from third-party donation sites you may use to make a donation to us, and which may provide us with your donation information.

Information You Provide to Us
When you visit our website, we will collect personal information that you provide to us, such as when you make a donation or register for any one of our events, programs or courses. You may also provide personal information to us through other channels, such as when you communicate with us through email or postal mail.
Information provided to us through our website or other channels may include:
- Contact information such as name, street address, phone numbers and email address;
- Communications you may post to the discussion forum on our website or send to us through email or postal mail; and
- Personal reflections you may provide through journal entries or meditation practice logs on our website, which may include photographs you choose to upload.
Note that when you make a donation through our website or proceed to payment for a course or event, you will be leaving the IJS website and interacting with third-party donation and payment processing services such as Givecloud and PayPal. Their collection of your personal information is governed by their respective privacy notices. We may receive information from those third parties regarding your donation or purchase (as noted in the section below) but we never receive your credit card information.
Information We Obtain from Third Parties
There are times we may receive information about you from third parties. For example, when you make a donation to IJS through our website or through third-party donation portals, we may receive certain personal information from the third parties processing those donations, such as your contact information and amount of your donation.
We may also obtain personal information from other sources, including publicly available databases or third parties from whom we have purchased information, which we will combine with information we already have about you. This additional information helps us keep our records up to date, and it also provides other ways for us to analyze our constituent base and make programming and development decisions. As examples, two types of personal information we might collect from public sources or purchase from third parties are:
- Address information from sources such as the U.S. Postal Service. This ensures important communications are sent to the correct location.
- Marketing information that helps determine the ideal recipients of updates, new programs or appeals.
Information We Collect Automatically
In addition to the information you provide directly to us or that we obtain from third parties, we may also collect certain statistical and other analytical information regarding your usage of our website. This information may include:
- Device and Usage Information: We collect information about how you access the website, including data about the device and network you use, such as your IP address, operating systems and browser type, hardware model, unique device identifiers. We also collect information about your activity interacting with our website, such as access times, pages viewed, and links clicked.
- Information Collected by Cookies and Similar Tracking Technologies: We use different technologies to collect information on our website, such as cookies and web beacons. Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in device memory by websites that you visit. Web beacons, also known as tracking pixels, are electronic images that may be used in our website or emails and which help deliver cookies, count visits, and understand usage and marketing campaign effectiveness. How We Use Your Information
We use the personal information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain and improve the website;

- Allow you to create an account in order to access programs and content, customize your experience on the website, participate in discussion forums, and connect with other IJS users;
- Market our programs and events and solicit donations;
- Send you information and respond to your communications and inquiries;
- Communicate with you about events, offers, programs, and volunteer opportunities of IJS or our partners;
- Detect, investigate and prevent fraudulent activity on our website; and
- Fulfill our legal obligations and carry out any other purpose described to you when your personal information was collected.
Donor Information
In addition to the other information contained in this Privacy Notice which applies generally to the personal information we collect, donors to IJS should be aware that:
- We do not share, sell or rent our donor list to other organizations that solicit donations or sell any products.
- We also do not send mailings to our donor list on behalf of other organizations.
- We do not exchange portions of our mailing list containing personally identifiable information with other non-profit organizations.
- In special circumstances, it is possible we may be required to share personal information to comply with the law or a specific legal process; we may also need to use personal information if there is a need to investigate a threat to the organization or to an individual.
Your Choices
Communication Preferences
If you provided personal information such as your name, mailing address, and email address for a donation or for other purposes (such as receiving an email newsletter or signing up for an event), we collect, store, and use this information so we can contact you in the future and tell you more about IJS. You may opt out of a mailing list or email list at any time. Just send an email to [email protected]. You can also opt out of future emails by clicking on the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each IJS email.
Cookie Management
Most web browsers automatically accept cookies. You can, however, change your browser to prevent this or to notify you each time a cookie is set. To learn more about how to manage cookies on different types of browsers, you can visit the website www.allaboutcookies.org.
Google Analytics is one of the cookies we use to understand and improve user experience. Your browser and other mechanisms may permit you to send do-not-track signals or other similar signals to express your preferences regarding online tracking. We currently do not track these signals.

You may be afforded, in accordance with applicable law, the right to: (i) obtain information about the personal information we have collected about you and to request a copy of it; (ii) delete certain personal information we have about you; (iii) request correction of inaccurate personal information we have about you; (iv) object to or request the restriction of processing of your personal information; and (v) withdraw your consent. Once we receive your request, we may verify it by requesting information sufficient to confirm your identity. We reserve the right to deny requests as allowed by applicable law, such as where we have a reasonable belief that the request is fraudulent, where your identity cannot be confirmed, or where we must retain your information consistent with applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights and choices, although some of the functionality and features available to you may change or no longer be available to you.
Data Security
The security and confidentiality of your personal information is very important to us. We have implemented measures designed to appropriately protect your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. Any personal information submitted on an online form hosted by us or one of our designated vendors is secured by SSL encryption to protect your security. Any bank and credit card processor we use must meet the highest industry standards for encryption and security protocols.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to our website and cannot be responsible for the theft, destruction, or inadvertent disclosure of your information.
Not Intended for Children
This website is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 13, we will delete it. If the parent or guardian of someone 13 years of age or younger becomes aware that we have received information without the parent or guardian’s consent, IJS should be contacted at [email protected].

IJS is headquartered in the United States, and we have service providers in the United States and other countries. We will take steps to ensure that your personal information receives an adequate level of protection in the jurisdictions in which we process it.

When we process your personal information, we will do so in reliance on the following lawful bases:
- To perform our responsibilities under our contract with you (e.g., providing the courses and events to you under the relevant terms).
- When we have a legitimate interest in processing your personal data to operate our organization or protect our interests (e.g., to provide, maintain, and improve our website and services, and communicate with you).
- To comply with our legal obligations (e.g., to maintain a record of your consents and track those who have opted out of marketing
